Asbestos Siding and Roofing Removal in Renton

Typical cost in Renton

  • Siding on one wall, garage or shed, about 200 to 400 sq ft$2,500 – $6,500+
  • Siding on a one-story house, about 1,200 to 1,800 sq ft of wall$10,000 – $25,000+
  • Siding on a two-story house, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of wall$16,000 – $40,000+

Gray cement shingles on an older house, or roofing of unknown age, are worth testing before you re-side or re-roof. Samples are taken from each side of the house. If shingles test positive, they come off wet and whole instead of cracked and cut.

The agency classes the two exterior materials differently, and the weather adds its own limits. We handle siding and roofing in Renton, Bryn Mawr-Skyway and East Renton Highlands.

Exterior materials

Cement shingles

Cement asbestos board is on the agency’s list of crumbly materials, so it has to stay damp for the whole removal. Shingles come off one at a time, are lowered by hand and are bagged or wrapped. Nothing is broken, cut or dropped.

Wood siding behind the shingles

Some older houses had cement shingles nailed over wood lap siding. Once the shingles are gone, the wood can be repaired or replaced.

Roofing

On its homeowner page, the agency lists asbestos roofing with the nonfriable materials that need no notice. Check with the agency before you rely on that for your roof, and keep the material from being broken or ground.

Small exterior parts

Check the small stuff too. Soffits, glazing putty and caulk can all hold asbestos. Their amounts count toward the building’s yearly total.

Working outdoors

A job with open walls is at the mercy of the rain.

Pick your weather

Wet weather and open walls do not mix. Book exterior work for a dry spell.

Catching fragments

Sheeting below the wall catches fragments, and they go in the waste bags.

The next siding

Re-siding may need its own building permit. Ask the City of Renton before you order material.
