Rolling back a corner of carpet is one way to get a first look at the floor beneath. If you find tile or glue there, stop and have it tested before the carpet comes out.

Never sand, grind or saw asbestos flooring to speed things up. Those methods turn a hard material into dust and bring the stricter crumbly-material rules into play.
Taking it away
Pieces go into labeled containers and then to an authorized site. Call the site before you book, because each one sets its own terms.
